My role on this project was to work with an outside agency on workflows and screen design. Once the high level direction was chosen, (touch product, how many hardware controls, ect) I then designed the final screens and delivered the design specifications to the development team.
The interface gained a lot of great feedback from online reviews, which doesn't happen very often in the camera world (reviewers paying attention to UI design!)
From an online review, "I had a quick look at the PlayTouch at a Kodak event a month ago, and the touch interface and menu controls are very intuitive and add a lot of appeal to the camera." Read the full New York Times article.
Main objectives for this product were to improve existing layouts and create quick prototypes for internal evaluation.
I also helped the Business Research group gather feedback for the Industrial Design concepts of the PlaySport and also test how well a new feature was received through usability testing.
How do you describe the action of deleting a picture, with no text available to you? The biggest challenge of this product was the fact that it was not allowed to have any supporting text.
I went to work on improving the screen design on the delete screen and settings screen first, since in standard UI's, these screens have the most text.
Working closely with a Human Factors Specialist, I created concepts and built quick prototypes for internal evaluation. My main role was to deliver the screen design and specification details to the development team.
The outcome for this project was outstanding. It was received well in the market and had some excellent online reviews to show for it.
